BBP Episode #82
Jay & Sofia Lyons are the husband and wife team of filmmakers behind the ” The Long Goodbye – the Kara Tippets Story”.(Features Ann Voskamp, Joanna Gaines, and Joni Erickson Tada)
You may remember the story – Kara was a young mother of 4, wife of a pastor who had just planted a church in Colorado. She started a blog to explore the concept of parenting with kindness. She received a terrifying diagnosis of breast cancer, and proceeded to share with complete vulnerability the process of facing incredible health challenges, embracing community, helping our children understand grief, and ultimately what it means to die with grace, hope, and dignity.
If your not familiar, this nationally reported and inspirational story explains the decision of one family on how they chose to prepare for the end. It is the Kara Tippetts documentary on grief and dying with dignity. It’s a profoundly personal and intimate glimpse into the tragic and beautiful life of a courageous mother and wife.
Kara was also thrust into the spotlight when her letter to Brittany Maynard went viral. Brittany made headlines when, after a brain tumor diagnosis, she moved to Oregon to be able to die on her own terms, via assisted suicide. Kara’s letter was a message of grace, begging Brittany to reconsider and live out her life – as long as she is given.
Kara Tippetts, a wife and young mother with terminal breast cancer shares the raw edges of dying with grace, dignity and a sense of humor. We follow along with this celebrated author and blogger as she navigates through many of our greatest fear-suffering and dying. As a happily married pastor’s wife with four wonderful kids, a terminal breast cancer diagnosis wasn’t the storybook ending she would have written for herself. Kara helps us realize that time is precious, and through her incredible honesty and ever present humor she reminds us that life truly is a gift. The late Kara Tippetts was the author of The Hardest Peace (winner of the 2015 Christian Book Award® in the Inspiration category) and blogged faithfully at mundanefaithfulness.com. Cancer was only a part of Kara’s story. Her real fight was to live genuinely while facing a crushing reality. Since her death in March 2015, her husband Jason is parenting their four children and leading the church they founded in Colorado Springs, Colorado.LISTEN NOW!
