Champ Thornton

is most centrally a sinner rescued by Jesus Christ and welcomed into God’s family. He’s also husband to Robben and dad to three wonderfully energetic children. Reared in a Christian family, Champ came to know Christ while attending a retreat during high school.

Before coming to Newark, Delaware, to serve as associate pastor at Ogletown Baptist Church, Champ lived most of his life in the Carolinas. After seminary, he pastored at Grace Bible Church near Spartanburg, South Carolina.

In addition to pastoral ministry, Champ co-leads the Delaware Baptist Association and has served as director of SOMA, a ministry training school in Columbus, Ohio. He has also authored several books: The Radical Book for Kids: Exploring the Roots and Shoots of Faith; Pass It On: AProverbs Journal for the Next GenerationGod’s Love: A Bible StorybookFrom Age to Age: A History of the Delaware Baptist Association and the Faithfulness of God; and Bible curricula for early and upper elementary-aged children.

Champ enjoys hanging out with his family and friends, drinking coffee, listening to music, doing genealogical research, and reading theology, biography, and fiction.
